Strong Winds Destroy Nearly 100 Houses in Svay Chek District, Banteay Meanchey Province

BANTEAY MEANCHEY: At least 82 houses across four communes in Svay Chek district of Banteay Meanchey province have been severely damaged due to stormy weather conditions on Sunday, 17 April.

According to the Svay Chek District Police Inspector, Colonel Chea Sloh, strong winds mixed with rain caused the roofs of 82 houses to get blown off their stands and destroyed. Fortunately, no one was injured during these incidents.

The inspector confirmed that starting from Monday, 18 April, 31 district police forces and administrative posts have been cooperating with other local authorities to help dismantle and re-renovate houses that were affected by the storm.

Earlier this month, on 12 April, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology had issued a warning on natural phenomena and bad weather conditions that may occur between 13 and 19 April 2022. The warning had said there may be rain, mixed with thunder, lightning and gusts of strong wind across the country.

The Ministry said that this phenomenon is caused by the effect of low-pressure valleys, such as India, on the level of weak to moderate contact and surface temperature and steam in the region, which forms a thermodynamic phenomenon that causes rain and stormy conditions.
